Introducing The Mexican Home Kitchen Cookbook

Published: Jun 28, 2020 · Updated: Sep 16, 2020 by Mely Martínez

Our First Cookbook with your favorite Mexican dishes!

Mexican Cookbook

The Mexican Home Kitchen Cookbook

After almost 12 years of sharing authentic Mexican recipes with the world through this website, I am very excited to introduce my first cookbook, The Mexican Home Kitchen!

This has been a long wait for many of my readers, who throughout the years have repeatedly asked me when they would be able to see my recipes in print. I appreciate all of your kind support and patience, and I poured my heart into this book because of it.

Types of Mexican recipes

With over 85 recipes ranging from salads, soups, main dishes, desserts, and even drinks, this book represents authentic home cooking as it’s found in Mexican homes. This is the type of cooking made by Mexican mothers and grandmothers, and I hope that many Mexicans living abroad can use this cookbook to reunite with their favorite childhood dishes.

Pre-Order Bonus

Order before September 15, 2020, and you’ll receive additional bonus recipes that you can start using today! Just send your proof of purchase to the following email address [email protected] and we’ll send you the bonus recipes.

You will find all sorts of recipes in this cookbook, ranging from celebratory dishes like Mole Poblano to simple, every-day meals like Caldo de Pollo. With this book, you will embark on a trip through Mexico’s rich cuisine, enjoying delicious plates from all over the country, like Asado de Puerco from Nuevo Leon, Frijol con Puerco from Yucatan, and Pollo a la Veracruzana from Veracruz.

Traditional classic Mexican recipes

I’ve made sure to pack this cookbook with many of the classic dishes that come to mind when you think of traditional Mexican food, like Tamales, Enchiladas, Arroz Rojo, and Albondigas. To accompany all these meals, I’ve included recipes for all the Mexican basics, like tortillas, salsas, beans, and rice. I’ve also written a section dedicated to the Mexican Pantry, where readers can learn about all the vegetables, peppers, herbs, and other ingredients found in the pantries of Mexican homes and used to make the recipes in this book.

All of the recipes are written with easy-to-follow instructions and tips, and most of them include pictures, too. I wanted these recipes to be enjoyed by cooks of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. I hope you love the recipes in this book and share them with friends, family, and the next generations.

Mexican Cookbook

The Mexican Home Kitchen will be released on September 15, 2020, and is now available to pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, Books a Million, and other retailers in the USA. In Canada, you can find it at Amazon Canada and !ndigo. Once you receive your book, I would appreciate it if you left a review on Amazon. Reviews are the best way to show your support, and help others see if this book is right for them.

    Hi Mely,
I was reading "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine October 2021 issue and on Page 83, I saw orange and white confetti drink glasses, that i have looked desperately for for 5 years now but have not located.
How do I find out about buying them?
    Thank you so much.

      Hello Jayne,
I believe those glasses are vintage. Check on Ebay or Etsy.

    Hi Ms. Martinez,

I came upon your dried pepper post here on your blog as I was looking for a source to explain the fresh/dried/smoked names of chilis in one place. Your post on that is wonderful, and I'm wondering if it is included in some form in your cookbook - perhaps a chart with photos?

    Thanks so much

    Hi Mely,
I've just bought your book.and love flicking through it looking at the recipes.
I live in England and find it difficult to source the ingredients in many of the dishes. Yes I can goto mexigrocer or other on line shops. But find it difficult to decide what to purchase.
Can you advise a good starter selection of ingredients to get me going?
    Many thanks
    Paul

      Hello Paul,
Thank you for purchasing the book. You can start by buying the masa-harina, ancho and guajillo dried peppers, and Mexican Oregano.
This will help you to recreate many of the dishes in the cookbook.

Absolutely love your cookbook, Mely! I got hooked after a friend invited me over for a taco night using this book and her knowledge from living in Mexico. It was one of the most comforting meals and such a blast to make our salsas and tortillas fresh at home! I have since purchased my own copy and a copy for my brother's birthday. I have one more brother and two sisters who will all be receiving a copy for their birthdays too! Thank you for this wonderful resource to learn more about authentic Mexican cooking!

I bought your cookbook and really looking forward to trying so many of your recipes. That said, I kind of find myself in your blog because I can ask questions. But I really am hoping I can make some decent corn tortilla’s. What they sell here are really not very good, so I hope I can get the hang of it. We have so enjoyed what I have made from recipes on the blog, and I think we will be eating much more now that I have your book.

I love your recipes! I use so many of them and my family loves it when I cook. My husband is from Guanajuato and your recipes and tips have helped me learn how to make some of our favorite Mexican foods that he’s missed since living in the United States. I will definitely order the cookbook soon!

I ordered your cookbook, then after receiving it, ordered another for my sister as a Christmas gift. I have made several of your recipes. They have all turned out great. My granddaughter was here over Christmas visiting from Acapulco. She is interested in learning to cook. We made your Chicken soup with fideo. She loved it. I sent her home with a copy of the recipe. Are you planning to publish your cookbook in Spanish?

Hi Mely, I have been following you for years and I pre-ordered your cookbook the first day you mentioned it. I have always loved the tastes of Mexico, and at one point in my life I was a cook at K-Paul's in New Orleans. I am a firm believer in not changing anything during my first time following your recipe. I realize many people feel they can substitute ingredients and then they judge the recipe. You and I both know that is not a fair way to judge your hard work in creating the recipe. Keep up the great work. I wish I could find a young lady like yourself who is so talented and creative with the culinary excursions in Mexico..... I would marry her in a heartbeat! I have many friends in CDMX and visit them multiple times each year. Based on my visits, I do have a couple of requests for recipes, however.... One is pineapple filled empanadas that I have enjoyed there. The other is a poblano Chile filled with a mixture similar to Picadillo but a bit sweeter. They call it Chile en Nogada. It would be an honor to make it with a recipe from you. All my best, Rick P

      Hello Richard,
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I still need to publish the recipe for the pineapple empanadas. I do have a very popular pineapple pie recipe in the blog, and the Chiles en Nogada recipe is in the blog.

I bought your cookbook a few months ago and found that several of the recipes are similar to my family's recipes. I can't wait to try the others! Do you have any plans to publish a book focusing on Mexican desserts?

I bought this book in the fall of last year, and it is the single most used cookbook in our house. The recipes are easy to follow and each dish turns out amazing. This website and the book are my go to when I'm looking for something new to make. Thank you!

    Hi Mely,
it seems that when i order the book on Amazon, shipping to my country costs almost the same as the price of the book... are there other options?
    Thanks, kind regards, Lars
