Pink Banana Agua Fresca Recipe

Published: May 8, 2015 · Updated: Jul 30, 2019 by Mely Martínez

JUMP TO RECIPE

In Mexico, we don’t just eat fruits, but we enjoy drinking them, too. Yes, we make all types of “Aguas Frescas” using fruits, herbs, and even grains and seeds. All of these drinks are very delicious, and I’m glad to be able to recreate many of them even though I am so far from Mexico.

Pink Banana Agua

Pink Banana Agua Fresca Recipe | Mexican Drinks

In this case, no one will have trouble preparing this agua fresca, since the ingredients are common in many kitchens. And besides who doesn’t have an extra pair of ripe bananas lying around? With this recipe, instead of making the usual banana bread, you can fix yourself a quick refreshing drink with them.

People might be intrigued by the pink color of the drink and the reason behind it. The only reason for the color I could think of was that in Mexico we add red grenadine syrup to many fruit smoothies and drinks, not only to add color, but also flavor. But either way, don't you think the Banana agua fresca just looks more attractive in a pink color?

Did you know that the banana tree isn’t a tree at all, but instead one of the largest plants in the world? Its leaves are among the largest found in the plant kingdom.

Banana is a fruit that is harvested year-round in Mexico, that is why we can enjoy them any time of the year. States such as Veracruz, Tabasco, and Chiapas are the largest growers of bananas, among many other states that also produce them on a minor scale. We have 9 varieties of bananas in our country, but only four are the most popular: Tabasco, Macho, Manzano, and Dominico. Banana in Spanish is called plátano, banano, or guineo.

I LOVE your website and recipes, and I believe this is the first drink I've made besides your champurrado but the grenadine was a little difficult as I had to add almost half a bottle before I got any shade of pink! The drink was still delicious but maybe sweeter than it should be.

I think I will try food coloring next time or would you be able to recommend any exact amount of teaspoons for using just grenadine or the ideal ratio for using a bit of both?

    Thank you! 💖
