This recipe for baked Quick Baked sweet potatoes with honey is a much quicker way to prepare sweet potatoes than the traditional baking method. Instead of having to bake them for more than an hour, with this technique, your sweet potatoes will be done in half the time!
Quick Baked Sweet Potatoes Recipe
This is not a traditional Mexican recipe, but I’m sharing it because I love baked sweet potatoes and thought that you might like this technique for making them quicker.
In Mexico, there are several ways for preparing sweet potatoes, and the most popular one is cooking them with a syrup made of Piloncillo and cinnamon. Another sweet potato dish that’s popular in the Yucatan region is a dessert made with a delicious mixture of sweet potato and coconut (it’s quite addictive!). You can find both of these recipes here.
How to make Baked Sweet Potatoes Recipe
DIRECTIONS:
- Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Turn the heat to medium-high. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat and place the lid on the pot. Let simmer for 20 minutes; the sweet potatoes will be softened at the end of this time. (Please check the ingredients list below)
- Remove the sweet potatoes from the pot and place on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 350º F for 10 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick: if it goes all the way through effortlessly, the sweet potatoes are ready.
- Place the potatoes on a serving dish or on individual plates. Cut a slit lengthwise in each sweet potato. Add the butter and drizzle with honey. Enjoy!

- 1 Tablespoon of butter per sweet potato
- 2 Teaspoons of honey per sweet potato

I love powerful flavors. I do a similar honey baked sweet potato. But before adding the butter and honey I sprinkle the potato with a little cinnamon, powdered ginger and Chinese 5 spice. Yum!
