Times have changed since I moved to the States years ago when finding tropical fruits and Mexican ingredients was challenging. Nowadays, most of my favorite Mexican ingredients, like Mangos, are everywhere. Back in my hometown, the mango season is incredible, as most houses have a fruit tree in their backyard. People collect them and eat them by themself or in their favorite recipes, like mango pie, mango agua fresca, salsas, ice cream, and lime and chilli powder.

Mango season in Mexico runs for months, depending on the area, with 23 states producing mangos to export. According to the National Mango Board, many varieties like Tommy Atkins, Kent, and Ataulfo (also called Honeys or Champagnes) are produced and consumed in Mexico. Even though the mango tree originated in Asia, Mexico has taken advantage of their tropical areas and made mangos part of our gastronomy. Especially along the coastal areas, where you will find street vendors offering mangos, among other fruits.

So, every time is mango season; it makes me think of my childhood town. There is something special about being able to eat fresh fruit out of your own backyard and share it with your family and friends. That is why every summer season, I make this simple, jet-delicious mango pico de gallo to share in my backyard gatherings. This salsa is one of those recipes that it's incredibly easy to make - you can whip up a batch in just a few minutes with simple, fresh ingredients. So why not add a tropical flair to your next party with this delicious and healthy dish?
