This No-Bake Mango Pie recipe is the perfect treat for those hot days when you crave something refreshing but don't want to turn on the oven. It is as easy to make as it is delicious and in a matter of minutes. Whether hosting a backyard party or a quick yet impressive dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, the No-Bake Mango Pie will be your next go-to recipe.

No-Bake Mango Pie Recipe | Pay de Mango

This No-bake Mango pie is one of my husband's favorite desserts, "postres." It is a typical dessert from Ciudad Mante in the Northern State of Tamaulipas. If you drive south from Ciudad Victoria, the state's capital, Ciudad Mante is located in a tropical strip that provides the ideal climate to grow mango trees. Local farmers sell mango pie, mango ice cream, mango juice, and mango preserves to travelers who stop for a short break to enjoy these delicious mango-made products along the road.

I also want to mention that this pie can be made any time of the year, even when mangos are not in season. I know mangoes are better during their peak season, especially in Latin markets when you can get them by the case, but you can also enjoy this recipe during the winter months. That's the beauty of this pie: no fresh mangos, no problem; use canned or frozen ones. The flavor and the results are still amazing.

No-Bake Mango Pie

Here is a list of ingredients you will need to make this pie...

  • Mango pulp from fresh mangos or One Can of sliced Mango Chunks (you can also use frozen mangos)
  • Gelatin powder
  • Water
  • Sweetened Condensed milk
  • Store-bought graham cracker crust. ( 9-inch)
  • Extra Mango fruit for decoration (optional)

Please note: For exact measurements of the ingredients listed above, scroll down to the recipe card located at the bottom of this post!

How To Make Homemade Mango Pie: Step By Step Tutorial

To make things easier for you, I will break down the directions for this recipe into sections.

Mix Gelatin

Gelatin powder next to water
  • Soften the gelatin in cold water for at least 2 minutes.
  • Then place it in the microwave on High (100%) for 30 - 40 seconds; stir once until the gelatin has completely dissolved. Set aside.
Gelatin powder diluted with water in a glass dish.
This is how it looks after 35 seconds in Microwave.

Make Mango Pie Filling

Mango chunks in a blender with condensed milk.
  • Place the mango pulp and condensed milk in a blender until you have a mango puree with a fine and creamy smooth texture.
Mango mixture in a blender with gelatin.
  • Now, pour the gelatin into the mango mixture. I used a small strainer in case any lumps were left in the gelatin. Blend again until creamy smooth, about 30 seconds.
  • Immediately pour into the pie crust. Place in your refrigerator until set, at least 2 hours.
  • Garnish with fresh mango slices or whipped cream before serving.
  • To cut the mango slices, use a paring knife to remove the skin from the mangoes. Cut the mango into thin slices and discard the pit.

Notes and Tips

  • For the best flavor, use ripe, sweet mangoes. Varieties like Ataulfo or Alphonso's are great for this pie.
  • If fresh mangoes are not available, try frozen or canned mangoes.
  • You can use a fine mesh sieve while pouring it into the crust for a silky smooth filling.
  • Adding a tablespoon of lime juice to the filling can enhance the mango flavor and add a refreshing tang.
  • Allow the pie to get firm in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to ensure it holds its shape when sliced.
  • If you decide to make your pie crust from scratch, check out my other recipe, Mango Pie with cream cheese. In it, the golden brown crust is made with Maria cookies instead of graham cracker crumbs and unsalted butter.
  • It is important to use enough gelatin (2 envelopes) and allow enough time for the pie to chill and set.
  • Serve the pie with extra pieces of mangoes or other fruit like strawberries. It's a perfect dessert for hot weather!

What to Serve with Mango Pie

This mango pie is the perfect summer dish for your next family gathering. It can also be the perfect dessert after a light dinner of easy fish fillets and white rice. If you want something healthier, try the Avocado, corn, and tomato salad for a light lunch with a slice of mango pie. No matter what you choose, your guests are sure to love this delicious and refreshing dessert.

Frequently Asked Questions About No Bake Mango Pie.

Before I share my recipe, I will answer the questions I usually get about this homemade recipe.

Can I use frozen mangoes instead of fresh ones?

I have made this pie using canned or frozen mangoes during the winter season. I was hoping to find fresh, ripe mangoes, but to my disappointment, I didn't. Anyway, to my surprise, it turned out really well.

If using canned or frozen, first thaw them completely and drain any excess water before using them to ensure the mango purée consistency is not affected.

Can I make the pie ahead of time?

Absolutely! A no-bake mango pie can be made a day or two in advance. Just keep it refrigerated until you're ready to serve.

What can I use instead of gelatin for a vegetarian version?

Agar-agar is a great vegetarian substitute for gelatin. It sets similarly and can be used in the same quantity as gelatin in most recipes.

How do I store leftover pie?

Leftover no-bake mango pie should be covered with plastic wrap or stored in their own pie pan in the refrigerator. It can last for up to 2 to 3 days.

Can I use a homemade crust instead of a store-bought one?

Definitely! You can make a homemade crust using crushed graham or "Marias" crackers mixed with melted butter, and a pinch of cinnamon. Press the mixture into a pie dish and chill it before adding the filling.

I have family in Ciudad Mante from my father's side and every time I go for the holidays or summer vacation, it is the one thing I always eat at my aunt's house before I leave and makes a whole pie for my trip back to Georgia, which is never easy for a pie in a cooler traveling over 1,400 miles. However, I never asked her for the recipe and now that I have this saved on my computer, I can make mango pies for my friends and family here in the United States.

      Hi Andrew,
I don’t know if you’re still making mango pies, but I just started using this recipe this year. I have a house in Baja and when we go in July we have a lot of mangoes. I peel, cut and freeze in small bags. We put them in the cooler with all the fresh frozen fish and bring them back to the states. I also dehydrate them. You can bring them back frozen as long as there are no pits. They make amazing pies, smoothies and maybe a margarita or two.

I tried this postre as I had it when I was a child; my grandma was so kind to make it for us. It’s a little piece of a home I left too young; this pie me conecta con Cd Mante and my abuelita. Now it’s my Holliday/special occasion tradition and my family loves it. ¡Gracias Mely!

    Hello!
I made the pie again and this time I was able to use the Ataulfo variety and it made a huge difference all around, in texture, flavor, color, and firmness! Very happy with the results. We don’t get Ataulfos here til mid April but it is definitely worth the wait!

    Hello
This is my favorite pie and I was so excited to find the authentic recipe here as it has been a while since I traveled to Cd. Mante! Thank you 🙂
The several times I have made it turned out great and oh so tasty, however it doesn’t seem as firm as what I remember getting at La Morita. Do you think an extra packet of gelatin would firm it up a bit?

    Helo Mely,
Cs3 Fonseca from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) here.
I was surprised to see the name MANTE mentioned here. I grew up spenidng my vacations in Xicotencatl, which is just up the road from LA MORITA. However, you failed to mentioned that LA MORITA is actually in the "municipio" of Aldama. Ciudad Mante is a good hour away from la Morita.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you ro the recipe... what are the odds of googling "Pay de mango de la morita" and getting such an accurate result? The pay tastes just like it does at La Morita, which is exactly what I was looking for, specially in one of those muggy, scorching hot days like I remember we so often had in Tamaulipas.
However, are you aware that now ther is a new road to get from Victoria to Mante? it is a straight shotand runs paralel to the road where the original Morita is. Now it is safer (you don;t have to go drive by any of those beautiful yet dangerous cliffs, badly maintained roads, and the neverending tight turns and curves. The new road saves you 1 to 1.5 hours of travel. It is an excelent option, however, now that people are choosing that route, all the stablishments like la mortia that were on the side of the road are slowly dying. In my case, I still rather drive a long and curvy road because I just love the scenary, luscious green hills, the BErnal in the background, maybe some wildlife, and of course, knowing that just up ahead, after tat turn, will be a delicious tall cup of iced-cold, freshly made mango juice, with a hearty mango cocktail and for dessert, yes, one or two slices of mango pie, wile spinning in that long swing out in the parking lot.
Thank you fro sharing and for bringing back memories.

Thanks for visiting and trying the recipe. Also thank you for your recommendation in reducing the amount of gelatin, the recipe above as mentioned is from the magazine "Mexico Desconocido". It does have a gelatinous texture, for a creamy version try the recipe for "how to make nobake pie II" with cream cheese. I do hope you like that rich texture.

Tried this recipe for the first time, and although the flavor was very good, would recommend reducing the amount of gelatin, maybe by half. The set was a little too firm and I felt that a less gelatinous texture would be better.

    Hi Alex,
According to the Knox Gelatine web site, these are the instuctions for stove top: Place gelatine in small saucepan. Add water; stir until well blended. Let stand 2 min. Cook on low heat 5 min. or until gelatine is completely dissolved, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

    Thanks for your comment.

brilliant recipe! dumb question: how long would you cook the gelatin mixture for if you don't have a microwave?...
    thanks!

Hi, I just lived outside of Mante for 3 months and didn't think I would find anything in a "pay de mango recipe" search when I was craving this, so thanks! I never thought I'd see Mante mentioned specifically either. Thanks again, and I look forward to browsing your other recipes!

    Hello Ben,

I hope you try it, and give it that nice twist you give to your very inovative dishes.

I had never been to that part of Mexico nor had this pie, but it looks so delicious and easy to make. I will have to give it a try.
